Galang Law Offices (Ontario Canada) is responding to the public health threats of the COVID-19 or 2019 coronavirus disease, and to help raise awareness against this rapidly evolving public health issue.

SYMPTOMS: Those who are infected with COVID-19 may have little to no symptoms. You may not know you have symptoms of COVID-19 because they are similar to a cold or flu. Symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to COVID-19. Symptoms have included fever, cough, difficulty breathing, pneumonia in both lungs. For update on symptoms, see https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/symptoms.html.

SPREAD: Human coronaviruses cause infections of the nose, throat and lungs. They are most commonly spread from an infected person through:

  • respiratory droplets generated when you cough or sneeze
  • close, prolonged personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
  • touching something with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose or eyes before washing your hands

Current evidence suggests person-to-person spread is efficient when there is close contact. For more information, visit https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/prevention-risks.html.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES: Public health measures such as hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and environmental cleaning in the home are the cornerstone public measures to protect individuals, their families and others against seasonal influenza and other respiratory viruses. The same measures are also effective when COVID-19 is circulating in the community. The application of these principles will help prevent and control transmission of any respiratory infectious disease, including COVID-19. See https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/health-professionals/public-health-measures-mitigate-covid-19.html.

We adhere to the advice provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) to reduce transmission of COVID-19 (see https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public):

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Maintain social distancing of at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene.
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
  • Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider.
